Bava Family has grown grapes in Cocconato, a village in the Monferrato Astigiano region since 1600. The first wine cellar was built by the family after the extension of vineyards between Monferrato and Langhe in 1911.
The Bava Family was among the first ones who started using barriques in 1975 and today their cellars have steel fermentation vats built specifically for each vineyard. The vats can be used for the maturation of the must as well as for storing wine in a temperature controlled environment. Some parts of the cellars have been specifically devoted to aging aromatic wines.
Today, Bava has fifty-five hectares of vineyards, cultivated with a similar mindfulness, care and consideration of the older times resulting in sustainable agriculture with reduced environmental impact.
The family owns vineyards in the areas of Castiglione Falletto, Agliano, Cioccaro di Penango and Cocconato.
In Cocconato, in the Pieve farmhouse, Barbera, Albarossa and white grapes are grown.
The only vineyards with international grapes are those around Relais of Sant'Uffizio in Cioccaro di Penango, where Barbera, Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay are cultivated.
The grapes for Nizza, Barbera Libera and Grignolino are from Agliano, from the vineyards of the Pianoalto of Crena farmhouse.
In Castiglione Falletto, the Bava Family owns a new cellar dedicated to Barolo and Dolcetto d'Alba.
